Chakraborty Lab | Augusta University

Our goal is to discover fundamental biological mechanisms that can ultimately inspire new therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular disease.

Unlocking Heart Development and Regeneration Through the Lens of Polyploidy

Dr. Archan Chakraborty leads the Chakraborty Laboratory at Augusta University. The laboratory integrates the power of Drosophila genetics with complementary mammalian model systems to uncover conserved molecular pathways that regulate heart development, regeneration, and disease. Our research focuses on understanding how cardiomyocyte polyploidy and mitochondrial biology govern these processes. Ultimately, we aim to identify new therapeutic strategies to promote cardiac repair and regeneration.

Supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Chakraborty Laboratory is actively recruiting enthusiastic graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research technicians, and undergraduate researchers to join our team.
